I met the Sisters of Mercy in a Bulgarian Disco

Well a few of them anyway and I had drunk a large quantity of the local brew and it was 23 years ago so my recall of our meeting is a little hazy.

It was in 1985 in a ski resort called Borovets. They looked all gothic and as if they were in a band, so we wandered over to talk to them. I was sure I recognised one of them as they had been on the cover of Sounds the week before we went skiing.

Anyway it turned out that a couple of them weren’t very happy about the Sisters of Mercy and wanted to leave and we spent a very drunk half an hour suggesting band names to them.

I think that the guys we talked to became the Mission.
