Perhaps he had a fault or even a small flood in his cellar which tripped his fusebox.

Then his lights would all go out, and all of his plugs too. Be a f**ker if he'd set up all his Sky+ to record stuff though, and all his plugs went.

Perhaps that's what he meant.
