We went with Danger UXB tours via Paddington. There were 30 on the trip. Took my daughter Gemma, who learned a great deal about how good, bad or heart-braking days out like yesterday can be.
Shit awful day. We played against the wind in the first half, tried to keep the ball on the deck as much as we could. We had plenty of opportunities, but chose the wrong option on quite a few occasions. The team looked compact, battled hard, and made Bristol City look very ordinary. Their one that hit the post looked in all the way, and amazed that it stayed out.
Inspired or lucky sub by Roeder – couldn’t see that Russell was injured, but Crofty really made a difference, and his crossing looked to be more effective. So many shots, chances but nothing went until Hucks goal from the left.
Rigters looked quality in the ten or minutes when he was on. One moment was pure class, he took the ball in his right in the inside left channel spun round, took two players out of the game and set up Croft with a chance.
The last ten or fifteen minutes was really tense stuff. Both teams going for the win, end to end, and we should have won, but didn’t, and it was gutting to concede a goal like that. Can’t think of any real chances they had in the second half.
The team at the end - a few were lying or kneeling on the grass and looked devastated. They gave their all and didn’t get what they deserved.
Had a good chat with a few of their fans before and after the game. The ones I met were a decent bunch and even the stewards were ok.
Even though we lost it was one of the most enjoyable games this season.
