all the so called 'experts' suggest that he is a poor decision maker. Or more along the lines of, it seems, afrain to make decisions in the positive.
Stays on his line when he should be taking a cross. Not confident in his own ability or just being very conservative.
It seems to me he'd rather concede three supposedly not at fault than take chances and concede one where he has made an error.
That is why - presumably - keepers who seem to cock up regularly are ahead of him.
