A strange match

Obviously a 5-1 win is a cause to celebrate, but that doesn't begin to tell the story of the match. First and foremost - Bertrand was MOM by far. Classy player, and I hope he's still here next season. The official MOM obviously did well to get his hat-trick, but he missed two absolute sitters which we laughed at at the time but in any other match could easily be the difference between no points and three. In fact the same went for a lot of today's game - we all laughed at some crazy refereeing decisions, the crazy free kick routine, some risable defending and misplaced passes, when by rights we'd normally be up in arms. Indeed, we did count on Marshall to make some quality saves, and came close to shooting ourselves in the foot when they got their goal back. It seems to me there are quite a few players in our current team who are being carried by some of the stronger members of the side, and in this respect I think the most crucial task facing Roeder in the summer is identifying and shipping out the deadwood as well as finding suitable replacements. And this won't be helped by Dublin's retirement - he's been the lynchpin of this team for the last year and it will take some time for the team to adapt to playing without him. But I don't want to be overly critical - ultimately we efficientally and professionally dispatched the league's bottom club, which was all that was needed today. Roll on Ashton Gate!
