Seriously though...

Steeped in 20th C history, relatively cheap, easy to get round and has LOTS of very good bars, clubs and restaurants. With few exceptions, W. Berlin is bobbins, so get somewhere to stay in E. Berlin because that's where you'll spend most of your time.
