I don't agree with that

This may an electronic medium but it's still real life. I am a real person, with real fingers really typing this message, and with a real brain which processes and reacts to the other messages which I read on here. I suspect the same is true of most others on here, though I have my doubts about some.

So there are real relationships created here, however emphemeral or fleeting they may seem. (Heck, we've even had a WOTB wedding!)

So it is not surprising that people will share personal news on here: having a baby, got a new job, had a bereavement, whatever. It's electronic water-cooler chat.
