I like this bit:

My son, who is at Loughborough University, was only about 60 miles from where the quake originated, but he also missed it, -----------because he managed to sleep right through it-------------------, even though a lot of his friends were woken up by it.

It just goes to show that my son could sleep through an earthquake.
