two things are relevant

1) immediate success is the requirement these days
2) the internet has given any old fool a platform for an opinion (and I should know).

Ron Saunders' first 2 seasons saw City finish 10th (10 pts off pa promotion place) and then 11th (12 pts adrift). In this day and age it is unlikely he would have kept his job for a third season in charge.
