Supporting your Dad's team

Always strikes me as similar to these people who vote for the same political party as their parents regardless of the current policies.

But, if it is OK to support your Dad's team (assuming he met the criteria of "real fan"), how far can we go back ? Can we support our Grandad's team ? Great-Grandad ?
