Was at a treat of comedy night in Manchester last year.

Compère busts out the word "spacker" in polite conversation with the audience. Most lips remained admirably straight and there was a feeling of unease. He popped it out again a couple of minutes later (referring to X-Factor auditionees as "spastics") to palpable frostiness and a sudden "Can you stop with the spastic s**t!". I wish i had been brave enough to reprimand him, and was pleased that someone had because it did feel painfully unnecessary. He tried to justify his comments as some blabber about the "intent" of the word's use while shielding his eyes from the glare of the stage lights and seeking out his heckler. Our gazes all fell on a young lady strapped in a wheelchair, who said "because i am one and it's not very cool!".
