I liked both those too. The Book of Dave is not unlike Great Apes ...

... in that he's taken a very very big and unusual idea, and built from it a compelling story, and delivered it with his usual aplomb. I find him very readable, and while the Book of Dave is in large parts presented phonetically in a bastard estuary-cockerney, it's no less readable once you get used to it. He even includes a glossary at the back so you can get used to the strange usage of language.
