Close shave

Funny how close it can get. I nearly died on the road into Fort William last summer. It's an A road but a s**t one and if you know the road, you know there's basically nowhere to overtake after Corran Ferry and you just go along at whatever pace it's moving at. I was doing that, about number 6 in the queue, when bloke behind me tried to overtake on a very short straight stretch. As he got level a full on, loaded timber lorry came round the right hand bend doing about 40.

I didn't know what to do - brake and try to let him past, speed up so he could get back in. I braked, but he braked too so we were still level, the lorry braked, I shoved my foot down and just got ahead.

We all had to stop at some roadworks a mile on and I did what I never do, which was go and have a word. He was sitting there with his kids in tears and his wife giving him a major earful in Scandinavian. I just said "You nearly killed us all", and left them to it.

Closest shave I think I've ever had.
