Girl babies tend (only tend, but noticeable) to sleep better. And then in the later years we would be tearing round trying to stop our sons doing boy stuff (you know, shouting, breaking things, hitting each other/the hosts' children, turning the hose on each other/a much loved pet, spreading mud everywhere) while their little daughters sat there doing colouring, re-arranging dried flowers and building relationships. Oh how smug they were.
It's all different now. The boys are straightforward, easy-going, WYSIWYG. The girls all had their first periods at 11 or 12 and its hormone city from then on. Then they get to 14 and want to go out for the evening in a buttock-length shirt and a pink thong. How I laugh.
