Is because it makes explicit for the first time that the Premiership is simply a money-grabbing excuse above and beyond being a sporting competition.
Before this at least the Prem was a fair and equitable sporting competition (albeit increasingly a financially skewed one) witha proper league structure with each team playing each other team twice..
This would ditch that, with someone playing Man U 3 times and someone else playiong (say) Derby three times.
The Prem is already the richest league in the world - it does not need any more money. It is simply grred.
The NFL case is different in that the NFL is the only place where the sport is played at a high level - to spread the sport you have to take the NFL, Football is a global game (in fact, THE global game, by miles), so that isn't the case. We have international football etc to take it around the world.
This is totally and utterly unneccesary.
