I don't get it though. They currently play 38 games, right? That = one home and one away match vs every other club.

If you sling in one extra game, how do you decide the pairings? By lot? It would be incredibly unfair on the relegation candidates if one of them drew Man Yoo (who need to win to clinch the league) and another drew a team whcih is safe in midtable and doesn't care.
