that pompey will say 'oh, they don't agree with our valuation of him, but based on the last 6 months i don't think we can pay more' and then we lose the deal completely.

its like when you're in morocco or somewhere and you have to barter with people. i've often seen people walk away if the price isn't right. i thought that they were calling the other person's bluff, and maybe they were trying to do that, but if neither party will budge, there's no sale.
