Given Brown's very PFI friendly policy as chancellor, I can't imagine that McDonald's (or any private partner for that matter) will be doing this for free. I'm also concerned about who accredits these qualifications. Rubber stamp job on McDonald's in-house training? Or will the course structure be determined by professionals (whatever that means)? To be fair, though, the latter seems more likely from what you write.

I'm all for vocational qualifications and while I'm sure there are many very good company training schemes which could be incorporated into a general qualification (perhaps even beyond A levels), it seems too much like private companies are setting the agenda, which is entirely consistent with government policy. It also appears somewhat coincidental that McDonald's would be the first to sign up and that makes me suspicious of their long term intentions. They have an insidious role in some US schools promoting themselves, their products and their values. Of course, nothing so far suggests this will happen, but...
