oh absolutely the 'love' i receive from my cat is utterly motivated by self-interest

but not to the point of self-obsession, because that would mean she wouldn't notice that i might be about to croak it

a dog would just keep pestering me to be taken outside so it could go for a dump, whereas cats are intelligent enough to go to the toilet by themselves
