Isn't it also slightly naive to say that the money will only be used for transfer funds? Of course the club would like a million quid to spunk on players, but they'll still be left with the wage bill. Do fans not trust the club to spend the money even-handedly, or is the idea that the fans will have a player to call your own? Also think of the pressure that will be heaped on any player bought under these circumstances. And as for the idea of re-investing money from the sale of players bought with this money, will any profits have to go back in to the fans' coffers? Or on the other hand, what if he suffers a career-ending injury in his first match? Will the insurance have to be paid back to the fans?
Surely if this was a serious idea the money could just be paid to the club? It will be no more helpful to direct it in to the playing budget, indeed it will probably have the opposite effect.
