Face facts, bigfeller, that belongs to another era

Here are the last two decades of the FA Cup winners:-

2007 - Chelsea
2006 - Liverpool
2005 - Arsenal
2004 - Man Yoo
2003 - Arsenal
2002 - Arsenal
2001- Liverpool
2000 - Chelsea
1999 - Man Yoo
1998 - Arsenal
1997 - Chelsea
1996 - Man Yoo
1995 - Everton
1994 - Man Yoo
1993 - Arsenal
1992 - Liverpool
1991 - Spurs
1990 - Man Yoo
1989 - Liverpool
1988 - Wimbledon (huzzah!)
1987 - Coventry (huzzah!)

Full of surprises, isn't it?!

You have to go back 20 years to get the FA Cup outside the top clubs, and of course the game has utterly utterly changed since then. There is no real chance at all of a small club ever winning the FA Cup again, and to plan a cup tie on the basis that you might ultimately win the Cup is like planning your household budget on the basis that you might win the lottery.

I am old enough to feel the pull of the prospect of a Cup run, and I well recall the childhood excitement of our cup ventures. But I am grown up enough to realise that it is unlikely ever to happen again.

What is more, I don't mind having a real go at the Cup (unlikely as success might be) when we are SAFE in the league. But this season we aren't, whatever numpties like SCC think. Four points off the drop zone. Another reason for safety first.
