Should have wrapped it up inside twenty minutes; we actually passed it around quite well in the first half but the less said about the finishing the better. We need a striker as much as a creative midfielder/defender. Or at least someone to revitalize the attack (Strihavka anyone?). Cureton's miss from a yard out in particular was criminal, and Martin's in the first minute was almost as bad. Bury were abysmal first half too. The defence was assured; it's good to know Russell can slot in at RB if required. Croft was the best player on the pitch in the first 45, Fotheringham not far behind. Martin did alright as a target man, but seemed to have none of the creativity or zing about him that he seemed to have last spring.
Second half was a completely different match. We suddenly became very susceptible to Bury's physical game, and our passing game went to pot. Only improved when Dublin was moved up. Very frustrating.
Thoughts -
Was Roeder's tinkering wise? He swapped players around several times and you got the feeling players weren't quite sure what they were supposed to be doing sometimes. Also, you have to question the wisdom of making a defensive change right before a free kick? Even though their goal was miles offside.
Jarvis has no future at the club. This must have been his one last chance to impress.
We threaten much more when we lump it up to Dublin - should we try route one from the start for a change?
Bertrand looked competent.
Lastly - Mo Camara. I've seen him against Wolves and again today, and I honestly don't see why people rate him so much. He can time a tackle well and that's about it. He has no pace (and was very lucky not to concede a penalty through this), and won't venture in to the last third, nor will he/can he deliver. I'd like to hear what others think.
