What's wrong with generosity?

If the thought is there (which admittedly now is often not the case) then it may only be a pair of socks, but it shows people you care. We took cards round to some of the people in our neighbourhood last week, and some of the old'uns were so grateful as we were only ones who they'd be seeing this Christmas, or even the only ones who bought them a gift. Obviously this shouldn't be a token gesture, but if people didn't have that annual kick up the arse to give a bit, then it would be a mighty depressing world.
