Going back to the "benefit scrounging" and playing Devil's Advocate, what do you think

about those who always reply to this type of article with "I work 50 hrs a week and can barely make ends meet" etc ?

Now, while I do not condone those who will not work full stop, if I were in a situation where I could provide more for my family by honest benefits (i.e. those which I am genuinely entitled to) than by working in a job I was capable of getting and keeping then I WOULD claim benefit (although I would use the time I had to get education / volunteer work in order to build up knowledge and experience which could then get me a job which WOULD earn more than the benefits).

Priorities. My family comes before your concerns on where your tax goes.

However, if I had no family then I would rather work and be worse off than claim benefit. What they don't appear to consider is that it is the only way to improve your situation. Live off benefits for too long and your income will be dictated by the government for the rest of your life as even the work experience you have will become irrelevant. The only way out of the Catch-22 is to work, earn a bit less, and then improve your employability.
