That's the nature of life as a barrister. If you're good, you win cases and you make money. If you're not, you don't and you don't. It's a fairly pure form of competition. Talented people rise to the top regardless of social background.
Why should (for example) the Duke of Westminster be so obscenely wealthy simply because his ancestors bought some fields in what is now Mayfair and Belgravia?
