Grant didn't get a lot of money but he didn't make the most of what he had to spend

and nor did he make the most out of what he had bought once he had bought it

Someone said that the job came too early for Grant and that may well be right; he made some classic "new manager" man-management mistakes which he probably won't make if he ever gets another management job
