You don't expect 100 miles an hour commitment (though we got it from Hughes!) but what worried me was that the best football, such as it was, was played by Southend. Thye put a couple of lovely moves together, and we didn't threaten them really from Charlton's early goal until around 10 minutes before the end when we got behind them a few times.
As I said last night, our crossing was awful.
Winning and losing is habit-forming, it doesn't matter that it was a meaningless friendly fixture, we should have won that game, or at least played some nice football along the way.
I'm seriously worried about the players' mindset away from home after the horrors of last season - boy do we need to win an away league game soon...
