the actions of the ira/pkk/eta etc are in some ways understandable becuse they have specific aims in mind. and they tend to target leaders/politicians, which altho reprehensible makes sense politically. what's happening in the uk now is different to what has been experienced before, and will need new solutions. i agree that you shouldn't have to scan your bag before goint into a shopping centre, but if needs must....it makes me sick when you turn on the news and there's been yet another bomb somwhere
