Anything above about 7mp is pointless.

The IoS done a big test, including digital SLRs, and blew up pictures to over A1 size from various cameras with various megapixel capability.

Anything over about 7mp and difference in quality was indiscernible to the naked eye.

I dressed my eye in chaps and a small t-shirt and then the differences was discernible.

I made that last bit up but the first bit is true.
