We did get along rather well for several centuries without a human rights act. So far as I noticed, up to 1997 Britain was not a brutal repressive police state.
The main effect of the HRA so far has been to enable lawyers to make a lot of money. In fact, I can tell you that so many ridiculous points were taken under the HRA that you now have to give advance notice that you intend to raise a human rights point in court and justify it!
It is a load of old crap, really. Has added hardly anything good to what we had already.
