These times...

are actually the safest to be a citizen here in history. The first half of the 20th century we had TWO world wars, followed by a Cold War and threat of a nuclear Third World War, accompanied in the 70s/80s by IRA terrorism. All we have at the moment is a threat which in historical terms is pretty trivial. The only way it becomes SERIOUS is if we over-react and make it so by fundamentally altering the nature of British life. Terrorists, can't do that - only we can.
