Pity Joe Royle doesn't want the job, really

Appointed in November 1994, Royle took over a side he'd loved playing for many years earlier, but which was adrift on a pathetic 8 points - sound familiar? His first match? A local derby, at home: no chance, surely... Yet he masterminded a magnificent 2-0 win, and from that point, they were off and running, clinching a remarkable survival in the penultimate game of the season.
