It's a love/hate thing

It is true to say, though, that England and France have basically spent their entire histories as nations trying to be as different from one another as it's possible to be. We support each other in rugby against the SH: it'd be great if the Webb Ellis Cup stayed here in the north. But when it suits them, they REALLY don't like us. On the day we won the Olympic bid two years ago, the Beeb had reporters stationed in Paris - and when they cut to them, you could clearly hear someone yelling:

"Ah, rosbif: f**k off back to England!"
