It was about the terrible treatment of the population of Congo (now Zaire) by Leopold II, King of Belgium and his henchmen in order to extract rubber.
In 1880 the population was 20 million, by 1920 it was 10 million.
Conrad's Heart of Darkness book was based on
the Congo.
