The Definitive Andy Hughes

Andy Hughes has Reading fans split 50/50.

He is fast, very energetic and will cover every single blade of grass. Unfortunately he can sometimes tend to become a headless chicken with it; charging headlong all over the place and leaving holes that need to be filled when the run comes to its usual end - a skied cross over the goal.

He can't really pass, and isn't all that skilful but can run very fast with the ball at his feet.

He was excellent in a 4-5-1 where he played in the hole behind Nicky Forster in our playoff side where the formation could accommodate such a loose cannon in central midfield. He scored some decent goals bursting onto balls from midfield.

Since a reversion to 4-4-2 he hasn't been able to hold down a place in his favoured central midfield position, and has played mainly on the wings and as a full back, to OK effect, it has to be said, as he has been much more disciplined.

Play him as an attacking central midfielder and you will have some joy, as long as you have some sturdy partners in the middle to cover for him as he goes on walkabout once again.

Failing that, you will have a jack-of-all trades utlity player who will fill in and play to the best of his ability wherever you ask him to.
