Grant: I Get The Feeling...

...that (I'm not including myself here yet!) a lot of supporters are going to turn against him very nastily and very quickly if things don't start to "level out" soon-whatever that means-in their opinion...

This comes from a "sitting on the fence" perspective, as this doesn't necessarily reveal what I think, but I can see it happening.

Lots of people grew increasingly impatient with Worthy (I was one of those) and, by the time action was ultimately taken, it was seen as being too little, too late. There was, therefore, a sense of disappointment when the relatively unknown/untested Grant got the job & it led to all the old accusations of the club lacking ambition, vision etc...

But Grant talked a good game, was ambitious (he repeatedly cites he wants to manage Celtic one day, so, to do that, he HAS to succeed here) and he wanted to get players in and shift some out. So people were happy to give him time.

And some of the signings have been decent.

However, his PR is constantly letting him down-he has slagged players off from his own team, he is now criticising players of other teams, rightly or wrongly with Mills, it will stick now and players will remember that, remember him calling a fellow pro a "cheat" and remember it if he wants to sign them.

He also seems to prefer a dull way of playing football, long balls, lots of "industrious" players but little room-as yet-for guile or creativity.

He seemed very keen to bomb Saffers out.

He has dropped Cureton and suggested, so it seems, that, in certain away games, he cannot select both Cureton and Hucks!

He and Hucks seem to have a bit of a cool relationship.

He, like Worthy, seems desperate not to persist with the younger players-no option, as yet, to give Spillane some games at centre back, and, after showing so much potential last season, Chris Martin is now a forgotten man-it seems. I don't care if Martin was a little, allegedly, irresponsible over the Summer, he is a talent and one which may make us a lot of money one day, he should be in or very near to the team. This "they're too young" thing is bollocks-all that counts, age regardless, is, are you good enough? Martin is, so is Spillane. But is Brown? Is Doc?

I'm not a Smudger yet, nor am I near his territory, however, I can see unrest for Grant growing a lot more quickly and unpleasantly than it ever did for Worthy. Defeat on Saturday will speed things along, defeat and a perceived negative selection/game play, will make things worse.
