Two words: Sorbpothane insoles.

They're the business - take all the harshness off the impact on the joints

Also, get runinng shoes from somewhere where they do a gait test on you - when I got mine on Satdee they filmed me on a treadmill in neutral trainers, and when played back slowly it was so easy to see that I over-pronate when I'm running - so it was no wonder my knees and ankles felt like they were being pounded by hammers.

So I tried a pair of corrective running shoes on the treadmill, and it's sorted my gait right out - my foot doesn't roll over like it did, and I didn't get any of the knee pain on my run like I would normally expect.
