Now inventor of DNA fingerprinting Alec Jeffreys has joined in by saying that he would appear as an expert witness to defend the McCanns.

Sound like a good, credible witness, but oh, what's this? He has done a significant amount of work with the Committee on Medical Apects of Radiation in the Environment, which Mr Gerry also sits on.
