FARC could be right; but might be FLN. FARC were given that safe haven area in the middle of the mosquito infected rain forest; but I thought FLN were more active in the north.
Escobar (a nasty c**t & reputed to be the richest man in the world at one point) was a big football fan - even had a full size pitch laid at the mansion/prison the government placed him in. It had fences on three sides - he escaped ... Both him & the Rodriguez brothers ploughed an awful lot of money into the local communities and were apparently well liked (& feared) by the poor because of it. Drive around Colombia and there's loads of semi-derelict amusement type parks in the middle of nowhere - all built by drugs money.
Was in Medellin last time I was there - high up on top of a mountain with stupendous views. Once Caldos were SA champions last year and narrowly lost to Porto in the World thingy in Japan while I was there.
Venezuela: the only country where the (oil) bosses went on strike.
