I suppose I could go and look up stats about the distances and in what bursts players run in a match - I guess they are readily available. But since most pitches are around 100m in length and I've never seen a player run full tilt from one end to the other (or corner to corner) then it's clear that a player never needs to be fastest over 100m. And simple observation will tell you that the most a player will ever have to sprint is, perhaps, from the edge of the 18 to the half way line or so. So, around 30m at most and more often much less - the first few would be most critical I'd say. Even when back or forward for a corner, there is usually never any need to sprint back to your original position.
