World Athletics Championships

You have to laugh at how they talk the Brits up!!

Whilst the BBC football commentators have had no qualms about taking the England team apart-supposedly leading to ITV getting the contract, as the FA tend to prefer the BBC-the athletics commentators are making our lot sound like worldbeaters! Quotes like...

"...well, in the steeplechase, Jamie Throng came 24th in the Preliminary Qualifying, and thats a good result for Jamie ahead of the Commonwealth Steeplechase Championships next month, where he hopes to reach the quarter finals ahead of those mighty FAlkland Islanders..."

"...Liz Kneebutt came in 8th in the 100 meters first round, a time of 14.44 seconds is a all time August best for Liz, she hasn't qualified, having been pipped to the post by some three seconds to the one legged Greek, Anastoplis, but she'll take some comfort ahead of her appearence at the Royal Warwickshire Show next weekend..."

"...Martin Dunderhead here, in the javelin.....steady.....well, good to see Martin is now able to pick the javelin up, always a tricky part of the proceedings, and he's hoping to be able to throw it by next summer..."

etc etc!
