but if I read between the lines of the club trying to find other ways to get him to 100%, then I would also think that we're looking at cortisone, painkillers or anything which would avoid an operation.

I think it's probably more to do with him being the best player we have at the entire club rather than the contractual issue, but it certainly sounds like they'll do a patch job to get him playing. Worst case scenario ? He is playing through pain at 90% all season, being careful, and therefore losing his creativity (dribbling, etc), and of course still not tackling back. And we don't drop him. And then he has his op, and retires or is released. That's even more assumptions, but it is a fear of mine.

You know you're getting old when you need hip replacements.
