New players, or lack thereof

This is a bit complex & wordy for first-thing Monday but I'll try.

Footy transfers work around supply & demand.

A decent player will have a value, but that value will surely increase the closer to Transfer Deadline you get?

The Final Value will also rise if the buying club are desperate (using Academy kids on a pre-season tour perhaps?) or because the selling club will have less time to being in a suitable replacement.

NCFC previously stated that bringing in players in June was not good policy because of the extra wages. But if the choice is between paying an extra one month's wages (?30,000?) or a Near Deadline Premium (could be anything) orr missing out the player altogether, I think I would choose the former.

Worthy has always been aware of our small squad-size (we even had a GK playing outfield for 45 minutes of a reserve game last season) and the fact that McVeigh is now back in favour shows how short (no pun intended) he is of options. 9 or 10 good players can often carry 2 or 3 lesser ones, but if the ratio tips too far problems will arise.

Put simply though, NW has all the cards - he has a big transfer budget and wage-bill (for this division); Colney is meant to be a top-notch facility and many players rate Norfolk a good place to come & work.

If we are short of players come August 31st then it is essentially down to one person - Nigel Worthington.
