Maybe it'll work, maybe it won't...

... I've had the same thought Steve's mentioned below too. Thing is though, if club after club gets bought up, then at some point, it'll happen to us too, no matter how much Smith and Jones might try to stop it. We're one of the biggest 30 clubs in England, so if clubs comparable to us are being bought, it's natural our turn will come somewhere down the line (or, or course, the Turners buy us and massively increase their investment).

One thing though. At Villa, for instance, I don't believe Lerner is going to break the bank: these are hard-nosed businessmen, who are in this to make a profit. There'll only be a few owners like Abramovich (until now: even he's having second thoughts) or, say, Magnusson, for whom money is no real object. At many other clubs, you'll probably find the main impact of very rich, successful businessmen will be to market the product far more effectively, maximise any revenue, and be as hard as nails when it comes to negotiating a price when selling a player, or deciding what the budget should be. And overall, that has to be a good thing: if it takes ruthless businessmen to help football clubs start being run properly, so be it (and that, of course, goes for our own club too).
