Ref the Elvis mash up with Chuck D further down the board...

...Elvis became a phenomenon because Sam Phillips (Sun Records owner and legendary producer) was actively looking for a white boy to record R 'n' B/country blues…his theory was if he could find the right person he would have a winner on his hands - black faces wouldn't/didn't sell...

Enter Elvis into his studio to record a record for his 'mom'…about a year later, I think, Elvis was back to try out various tracks and the rest you should know...

Whatever the rights and wrongs of the South at that time – mostly wrongs, obviously - or your personal take on him as a man/performer, Elvis was a singing and performing genius...yeah, he probably was racist, but maybe less so (valued judgement on my part) than many Southerners of the time...the bottom line is someone was gonna blow the whole thing open and it just happened to be have been him...

Basically Alan: No Elvis, no Tupac!
