sigh. I know that. What i meant was

When we were looking to bring him here we didn't know if he'd be a consistent performer and wouldn't until we got him here and saw him play.
THerefore we couldn't say for sure he'd play every week or build our team around him as a consistent performer as at that point we didn't know if he was (a consistent performer) or not.

Obviously he's gone to Stoke which is why this has come out, and they were happy to give those assurances.
