I think it means that the person was already dead when the blood got on the

walls. Apparently (missus told me a while back) it is a myth that bleeding stops at the same time death occurs.

Takes a short while and can still bleed a bit anyway without the help of a pumping heart. And of course it doesn't dry immediately if it's on the outside of the body.
