Why did Ashton get booed so much?

Lower down Russell was included as a player who would get a good reception returning to CR, and probably because he put in 100% effort each time he played. But didn't Ashton, he nearly helped us out of relegation, signed a new contract (with no dreaded buy-out-clause, that was mentioned) which enabled us to get a much better fee for him, he was honest when he left and has been back to watch a few games. IMO people booed him so much because he asked for a good reception in the EDP, like a red rag to the fans!

But i was sure that when Russell left it wasn't on a good note, this is what i found in the archives of MightyNorwich.co.uk.

CITY'S Darel Russell has rejected the latest offer made to him by the Club for a one-year extension to his existing contract which expires in June 2002

"Darel has now rejected two offers from the Club to extend his contract. He had earlier turned down an offer to extend his contract by three years on very substantially increased terms. We will now listen to offers for the player."

We only got money for him because he was under 24, quite forgetful and selective memories some of us football supporters have.
