But that's standard

in "combat" situations, which sadly is what these guys seem to think they're in. You had to overcome all your normal inhibitions to go over the top in the trenches in WW1, for example, knowing that you were more likely than not to die.

And it's a bit crass to say that their *motive* is the virgins. I suspect that what they really thought they were doing was striking a blow for Islam against the infidel as part of the ongoing "war" involving Iraq, Palestine, Israel and Saudi. The virgins might have been thought of as a side bonnus but I'm sure won't have been their PRIMARY goal.
