i don't think the time lag is as big as you seem to be suggesting though

i'd say an awful lot of today's social norms and values may have some of their foundations in Thatcher's era but have really been built upon by Blair (the mania for Celebrity being fed by Blair and his schmoozing with the champagne-celebrity-socialists of "Cool Britania")
and that's really where your ire should be directed
